THE ROARING 420s (Dresden)

After over a decade of psychedelic odysseys, cult acclaim, and international touring, Dresden’s beloved psych collective The Roaring 420s return with We’re All In It Together — a long−awaited third album and a triumphant swan song for the band’s original line-up. Set for release on September 5th, 2025 via It's a Gas! Records / Cargo Records, the album marks both a reflective chapter and an exuberant celebration of the band’s kaleidoscopic journey.

Founded in 2010 by Florian Hohmann, Luisa Mühl, and Martin Zerrenner, The Roaring 420s quickly carved a niche within the international psychedelic scene, channeling 60s garage rock, surf, freakbeat and shimmering psychedelia into a sound distinctly their own. As Far Out Magazine (UK) once noted, theirs is “a wholesome and hedonistic twist merging the normally culturally constipated psych purists into fun-loving party machines.”

Emerging from an art collective and a shared love for beatnik poetry, the trio’s early chemistry was electric. From their 2014 debut What is Psych? (Stoned Karma Records) to 2015’s acclaimed You Can’t Get Out Alive (produced by Jorge Munoz−Cobo), they built a reputation for energetic live shows and infectious songwriting. Relentless touring followed — across Europe, the U.S., and even Israel — sharing stages with the likes of Night Beats, White Fence, Mystic Braves, and long-time collaborators The Blank Tapes.

But the road takes its toll. By 2019, the original trio had tracked the backbone of a third record, only for the project to stall following Mühl’s departure, studio closures, and the global shutdown brought on by COVID. The tapes, long thought stranded, were eventually recovered in 2024 — and with the help of keyboardist Paul Riemer and producer Jorge Munoz-Cobo, the album was finally completed.

Now, after years in limbo, We’re All In It Together arrives as both a love letter and a farewell — a cartoonish ode to life on the road that captures the camaraderie, chaos, and cosmic beauty of the band’s years together. These songs shimmer with 60s guitars, swirling organs, reverse fuzzes, and radiant vocal harmonies, grounded by Mühl and Zerrenner’s rhythmic foundation and lifted by Hohmann’s ever-poetic voice.

The result is The Roaring 420s’ most personal and vivid work to date — a sonic scrapbook where “parking lots turn to homes” and the only constant is the drive to “keep on keeping on.” Whether you call it garage rock, surf, psych, or exotica, one thing is clear: this ride is going to be wild — and we’re all in it together.

The album will be released via Florian Hohmann's It's a Gas! Records (Sugar Candy Mountain, The Blank Tapes) in collaboration with Cargo Records will be released on vinyl, CD and digitally on all streaming services.

„Warum habt ihr so lange gebraucht?“, hat niemand die Empty Bones je gefragt. Aber das könnte man, denn es hat 10 Jahre gedauert, bis sie ihr erstes Album in voller Länge aufgenommen haben. Es gibt Gründe! Einige sind gut, einige sind schlecht und einige sind hässlich oder so... Vielleicht kannst du, lieber Hörer/liebe Hörerin, einige der Gründe herausfinden, während du den Songs dieser Platte folgst.

„Accuracy“, der Startsong, ist ein pulsierender Song über die Schwierigkeiten, sich den Erwartungen unserer Gesellschaft zu stellen, während man sich absolut nicht in der Lage oder willens fühlt, sie zu erfüllen. Dann gibt es Songs wie „Drop In, Drop Out“ und „Drunk“, die davon handeln, dass man sich selbst sabotiert, indem man in einem Meer von Bier ertrinkt.
